Your Story (How Did You Meet)

Josh and I met as teenagers working at our local grocery store. He asked me out and I politely declined, lol. After I came home from college the next summer he asked again, and I was impressed by his persistence so this time I said yes.

Why did you select Eastholme?

After being engaged for 2 years and looking around Phoenix for places to have our wedding along with caterers, photographers, etc. we were finding the whole process to be overwhelming and expensive. I wanted all of the aspects of a traditional wedding, but I didn't want it to turn into a stressful circus! We thought a destination wedding to one of our favorite locations (Colorado) would be great way to have an event that really had a sense of occasion without it getting huge and out of control. After meeting Deborah and seeing what Eastholme had to offer I knew we had found the place. Eastholme offered all of the details of a traditional wedding with an amazing wedding planner to take care of it for me so I wouldn't be trying to make arrangements with caterers, florists, and photographers from another state. We loved the beautiful historic location, the package price was very reasonable and Deborah put me at ease immediately.

THE DETAILS

Ceremony

We loved that Rev. Calvin personalized the ceremony to incorporate both of our families religious backgrounds. I would also have to mention that it was pretty amusing when Josh said "I do" and I jokingly said "thank you," thinking that no one would hear, but not realizing that everyone could read my lips! But he had his moment too when he tried to put my ring on the wrong hand.

Reception

I was determined not to cry at all on our wedding day, but my sisters toast had me choking back the tears. I didn't let any of those tears slip out though! All of our guests raved about the food which was great because we have some notoriously picky eaters in our family!

Resources Most Helpful: Deborah, Deborah DEBORAH without a doubt! And all of the great websites that she recommended to me like www.projectwedding.com

How long to plan wedding: Well, we had been engaged for 3 years by the time we finally made it to the alter, but after we found Eastholme we were married just 10 months after we booked our day.
Number of Guests: 35
Wedding Theme/Inspiration: Autumn in Colorado (We don't have autumn in Phoenix)

Color Palette: Black and Ivory
Attire: Formal/Semi-formal
Décor: We didn't need anything besides Eastholme and it's beautiful mountains and trees!
Bouquets: Deep autumn colored roses and calla lilies for my bouquet,( I was in love with my bouquet!) and creamy white calla lilies for the bridesmaids.
Boutonnières: A dark purplish/ burgundy calla lily for josh and white callas for the groomsmen.
Centerpieces: I found beautiful lanterns at Hobby Lobby and put battery operated candles in them ( this was a great suggestion from Deborah in regards to weather, and put me at ease with the little ones around too!) and then we scattered fall leaves around them.
Cocktail Hour: Bacon wrapped stuffed dates with gourmet cheeses were served while Josh and I finished our pictures.
Reception Menu: "Simple Elegance Menu"

  • Baby Spinach Salad w/Mandarin Oranges and Sugared Almonds served with orange rice wine vinaigrette
  • Chicken Marsala
  • London Broil of Beef
  • Roasted Garlic Mash Potatoes
  • Grilled Vegetables
  • Coffee and Tea

Cake Design: 3 Tier white cake with ivory buttercream with black lace
Favors: Gift trees from the Arbor Day Foundation. They seemed perfect for a wedding in the mountains!
1st Dance: "Luna" by the Smashing Pumpkins

Favorite Details/Special Touches

I loved every detail and special touch, handled flawlessly by Deborah, start to finish. I think that once we started working with her I had the most stress free experience of any bride out there. She was even able to move our reception indoors the morning of the wedding when it was discovered that it would be a little colder outside than anticipated.

What Made Your Wedding Unique

Well I haven't been to a lot of weddings where the groom insists on wearing a hat, lol.

Memorable Moments

Our unity candles blew out shortly after the ceremony sometime while we were taking pictures, but the memorial candle we had lit for my grandfather and my uncle stayed burning for quite a while afterwards.

What Would You Do Different

Found Eastholme sooner so I wouldn't have wasted my time or stressed myself out for 2 years before hand.

Your Advice to Couples Just Starting to Plan Their Wedding

Get a wedding planner! Deborah is the best around, I would recommend taking all of her advice! Remember that it's great when family and friends offer their advice but the bottom line is that this is YOUR wedding, and you should have it how YOU want it. When the big day rolls around just relax and don't let anything get in the way of enjoying your special day!

Any Other Special Moments/funnystories

I cannot picture our wedding turning out any better than it did. Eastholme was absolutely perfect and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a wedding venue. You will be in great hands with Deborah and can rest assured that she will give you the best wedding planning experience possible. The Bed and Breakfast is very comfortable and it was great that our family and wedding party could stay there with us. The breakfast is delicious. Since we returned home from our honeymoon I have been scouring the internet and making big messes in our kitchen trying to find recipes that even come close to tasting as good as the Quiche Lorraine and baked Eggs Florentine that Deborah served, but have had no success. They were impossibly tasty!
